Middleton Solar Farm, situated in the townland of Killashee, has been granted a 10-year permit by Longford County Council. Spearheaded by Harmony Solar, a Wexford-based company, the project is anticipated to require an investment of approximately €30 million. Encompassing 51 hectares, the solar farm boasts 216,000 square meters of solar photovoltaic panels mounted on robust steel frames. It is poised to generate an estimated 35 to 50 megawatts (MW) of electrical energy. Additionally, the infrastructure includes a substation, control room, inverter/transformer stations, underground power and communication cables, as well as a boundary security fence, among other features.
Expansion plans are also in the works, as Harmony Solar Longford Limited seeks a ten-year permission to develop another solar farm near the Village. Spanning 34.5 hectares, the proposed expansion entails 184,500 square meters of solar panels mounted on ground-mounted steel frames, alongside a substation and associated hardstand facilities.
